Westwood’s Green Committee was established to support the company’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability. The Green Committee is committed to the responsible use, and protection of, the natural environment through conservation and sustainable practices that enhance ecosystem resilience, human well-being and ultimately our company’s strength and resiliency.
The Green Committee supports Westwood through efforts that work to standardize practices in all offices, which include efforts to reduce waste and pollution, increase energy efficiency and recycle. The committee also supports Westwood through education efforts that keep employees informed on issues related to environmental and sustainable protocols.
The committee also supports Westwood’s efforts to measure and offset greenhouse gas emissions. As part of our work to be responsible citizens of the world, Westwood commits to offsetting our carbon emissions generated through air travel.
One of our eco-friendly initiatives for the Green Committee is to securely shred and recycle. In 2023, we shred or recycled nearly 3.11 US short tons of paper with Iron Mountain, resulting in the following benefits:
14.65 MTCO2 avoided = 3 gas-powered cars off the road per year
248.8 pounds of solid waste avoided = 20 trash bags avoided
Preserved 75 trees = 12.44 fresh green tons
Saved 5,909 gallons of water, or the equivalent of 118 bathtubs of water preserved
9,206 kWh of electricity saved = 37 residential refrigerators operated per year
Once our paper is shredded, the materials are transported to paper mills for pulping. This process provides both security benefits and environmental benefits by reducing pollution, preserving landfill space and saving trees, water and energy resources.
All calculations for metrics in this report were calculated by an independent third party named Quantis, a leading lifecycle assessment consulting firm specializing in supporting companies to measure, understand and manage the environmental impacts of their products, services and operations.
